Recently I purchased this little device called Plextor ConvertX PVR. The device lets you record digital tv to your computer. The model I purchased is mac only, so I did not have a chance to test it out on a PC.
The Good:
- Easy to set up
- Small, portable, neat looking
- Ability to plug in S-Video, Composite Video
- Hardware compression Mpeg 2, 4
- EyeTv2 ability to edit the movie
The Bad:
- Old version of EyeTV software
- Latest DivX version is not compatible with the software
- Useless built-in TV Guide , doesn’t work with Direct TV
Overally it’s an excellent device to have. I can record anything from my DirectTV subscription. I was told that I wouldn’t be able to record from HBO, Cinemax, Starz and Showtime because of the channel encryption, but it works like a charm. I guess the encryption works only for HDTV programs. The pvr is not hdtv enabled. But I don’t really care. All I wanted is to record my favorite shows from TV to computer and burn them on DVD. I love my new toy.
